Five shifts in mathematics instruction from the way we teach under the Maryland State Curriculum are needed to effectively implement the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics. The five shifts include:. Over the course of the next few years, as Calvert County Public Schools transitions from the Maryland State Curriculum to the Common Core State Curriculum, there will be many changes taking place in instruction. Teachers will concentrate on teaching a more focused set of major math concepts and skills. This will allow students time to master important ideas and skills in a more organized way throughout the year and from one grade to the next.

Learning From Home Resources – Calvert Library
FLEX Lunch is a one-hour lunch period in the middle of the day between Periods 4 and 6 , during which time all students will eat. This program creates opportunities to increase the instructional and extracurricular offerings available to Huntingtown High School students. We ask that you encourage your student s to take full advantage of the opportunities available during the FLEX Lunch. Students struggling academically will be required to receive academic support for 30 minutes during FLEX Lunch. It is truly a privilege, as the FLEX Lunch will give students the freedom to make prudent choices to enhance their education. They will be afforded numerous chances to cultivate and advance positive and productive relationships with their peers, teachers, and administrators in the contexts of curricular and extracurricular situations. Many students will eat lunch in the cafeteria, gymnasium lobby, or courtyard.

Our program offers a variety of activities which may include recreation and games, arts and crafts, reading, music, drama, time to work on homework, and free time where the children can pursue their own interests. We are licensed through the Maryland State Child Care Administration and follow their requirements and regulations. The staff members in our centers enjoy working with children and are certified and trained yearly in childcare classes, CPR, and first aid.
